@mare_kell: there’s not one “typical” American accent (there are dozens, of course) but here are some ways to tell if an actor is putting on a fake one!
Hugh Dancy on Law and Order is the WORST. The way he speaks is so annoying. Linus Roache on the other had a perfect accent. I never knew is was British. Also a much better actor than Hugh.

A Brit who does an underrated excellent American accent is Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl. He’s got the nasal New York sound down pat!

The one I always notice is; if a word ends in a vowel, an English person might add an R on the end of that word on accident.

The accents in Silo drove me crazy. Those people have been in the silo their whole lives. They shouldn’t have different accents 🤣

I actually thought there was going to be a plot point in Silo about everyone being from different areas due to all the different accents! It’s subtle but consistent and catches my ear. (or maybe that does end up being a plot point, haven’t fully caught up lol)

I’m blanking on the word right now, but in Outlander, there is a word the Brianna says that is so completely not how and American would say it, it drives me crazy.

I lived in England for a while, and I still never thought about this that hard until I started watching Silo and now I think about it CONSTANTLYYYY. It’s Rebecca Ferguson’s accent and I DO love her but THE R’S GET ME EVERY TIME.

This is my favorite game to play while watching tv I can usually clock it pretty early on too. Sometimes it’s not just the pronunciation for me but even where the place certain words or how the my hold their mouths. Hugh Dancy’s lips are so lateral and flat and his lip corners are so tight it’s just never how an American would hold their mouth when speaking.
