Legally a deposit is refundable, you need to say retainer.

Don’t say deposit. Only retainer. 😬 deposit means refundable.

I realize a retainer is correct term to use here. People are always saying they need deposits, and some don’t even take them then regret it in the end. Just a funny piece of content y’all.

Yep. My contract verbiage and my initial consultation says non-refundable retainer fee.

50% AT LEAST. I know some producers who require up to 70% deposit/retainer. What you call it doesn’t matter as long as the contract defines when the cancelation must be made by for a (full/partial?) refund

“We pay before you do anything” I hate these types of customers. Best line to say is “yes that’s how the world works, if you’re in McDonalds you pay before they make your food. Easy concept to understand”

Deposit is right. But you are selling sarcastically that is why you lost the client, you should have convinced her about it 😂😂😂

Using the word deposit is the first problem. Deposit means you're going to give it back. Mine is a retainer. And I do work for my clients before the session as any good photographer should

😂 People here really putting you down for use of terms… a retainer could technically be refundable as well. By law the cancellation must be proven to have suffered you a loss if not you gotta return it. So if that day stayed clear after the cancellation money goes back. In the end a judge will look passed what term you use and decide on that loss alone, nothing else. Use whatever phrase you want bro! ✌️

I've been a freelance photographer and a large business owner employing freelance creators the reason people are nervous about deposit is because people don't always do the work they're supposed to and you get left with paying people that actually haven't done any work for you yes it is annoying but I think sometimes you have to build up your rapport as a professional so business is now that you deliver the work
