I read a lot of comments of this. I had a brother who became an addict. You all speak very idealistic. The truth is an addict is 2 seperate people, the one you know and love and wants help, the other is only an addict and watching someone be homeless vs coming home because the addict side won. I have drug him out of crack houses and put him in hospitals, visits in prison because crime follows to pay for the addiction. I would watch him stab himself so he could get meds. He knew I loved him. I knew he loved me but reality is that changes nothing. Addict side wins and they make choices. When I got the call my brother passed so died my hope. They do battle themselves but to put responsibility on family as though they can fix is untrue. I pleaded with my brother 2 months before he passed to let me get him into rehab. Told him I feared I’d never se him again and his word haunt me today. He said I hope it , I am tired. What most don’t realize when you are that addicted you begin having seizures if you don’t find dope. It wasn’t about high any more it was to simply regulate and he would rob you blind. It sadly was the last time I saw him he got ahold of someone’s morphine. I am thankful he passed on someone’s couch vs the street. How I wish if love and encouragement would fix addiction where would he be today?

People don’t realize how hard that situation is. I’ll never forget the day that a lady and her daughter stopped and gave me a blanket and for any pair of socks and some Burger King nicest people in the world and it was so cold out and they didn’t look down on me. They just helped me. I don’t have a clue who they are and now that I’m out of that situation I wish I could tell them how much I think about them you don’t know how easy it is to change someone’s life with a little bit of kindness.

Only she can help herself, sadly it’s all about the choices she makes. Hopefully she’ll get to the point of wanting to be clean & sober. What really sucks is that no matter which party is in office our politicians can’t come together to fight this epidemic and change the laws so we can get people into treatment
