The critical component that’s missing is the $5M couple can work their withdrawal rate to stay under the tax and IRMAA thresholds. The $5M couple also has more wiggle room to perform Roth conversions.

Did I see that right? $12k a month vs $21k a month that’s pretty significant

You conveniently forgot to include the $63k from the traditional IRA when determining their taxable income??

Nobody cares about spending a few extra thousand in taxes when your pulling in $21,000/month…

R_K_1_U :
at different level of money at different accounts you don't have to pull out money the same ratio for a 5 million account vs 2 million account, the second couple can completely ignore their Roth account and brokerage account and rely on the 491k account first

First off, it all depends where this money sits. Second, you cannot tell me someone rather only have $2m instead of $5m.

5m couple may not need to pull 4.5% of their income if they aren't living extravagantly

Question: Does having rental properties and depreciation on them, offset the income on the retirement?

All true. But the flaw in this video is COL. Easy to say couples should get by on less, but then you see how much it costs in NJ/NY vs. FL.

ok. but what if we end up with over 2 million in retirement and then a few million in farm properties. can we start selling them when we need the money?

Why are discussing capital gains when people who have that type of money are normally living on dividends and interest from their portfolio rather than selling what they have? This is a massive misrepresentation.

Ridiculous we are taxing retired people in this country. You had them invest in the economy for 30 plus years that you wouldn’t let them touch without a penalty. Let them not pay taxes on a much higher amount
