Target Audience: Those who can understand RC passages but consistently fall into traps when answering questions; those who comprehend LR question stems yet are easily misled by distracting answer choices. Core Principle: Eliminate subjective intuition and rely on fixed rules to identify flaws in answer choices. Correct answers must be supported by explicit evidence from the passage; incorrect options follow predictable patterns that can be systematically recognized. Fundamental Insight: Wrong answer choices aren't merely awkwardly worded—they contain concrete logical flaws. Many students rely on gut feelings after reading a passage to select answers. To spot deceptive options, remember this rule: for every wrong choice you eliminate, find solid textual evidence—don’t dismiss it just because it “feels off.” ❌ Ineffective Review: This option involves over-interpretation ✅ Effective Review: Option A claims X will definitely happen, but the passage only states X happens occasionally—this misrepresents the degree of certainty, so it’s directly eliminated. Study Habit: After selecting an answer, not only should you locate the textual support for the correct choice, but also label the error type for each eliminated option. Common & High-Frequency Errors in RC & LR: 1. Scope Shift: Expanding or narrowing the discussion scope—treating a part as a whole, or attributing characteristics of A to B. 2. Degree Distortion: Altering certainty (e.g., may → must, some → all, possible → certain). 3. Out-of-Nowhere: Makes sense logically but contains no information from the passage. 4. Reversal of Information: Directly contradicts the passage’s stance or causal logic. 5. Partially Correct: Matches part of the passage but adds fabricated details later—most misleading. 6. Irrelevant Answer: Content is true but doesn’t address the actual question—common pitfall in main idea or purpose questions. 7. Over-Interpretation: Treats possibilities as certainties or invents logical connections not present in the text. Additional RC Reminder: Some options accurately restate details from the passage but are irrelevant to the question—correct in content, but off-topic.
