Everyone loves to complain when ministers’ salaries go up, but have we stopped to ask whether it is worth paying for capable people to run Singapore? If their pay is still competitive but below what they could earn in the private sector, isn’t that a reasonable trade-off to attract and retain talent? Singapore didn’t become successful by paying peanuts for leadership. The real question should be performance, value and integrity — not simply the salary figure. If you think you can do better, step up and prove it. If you can’t, then let someone more capable do the job.

If the ministers love the country truly, they will not need the high salaries. If they are not willing to do their utmost best for the country without the high salary, it simply means they are ministers for the money not for the people. Simple logic. They have just by logic implied that they will not serve the people if the salary was low. They are doing it for the money.

for me, it's not clear how this increment is measured against - what are their KPIs? also, we still do not see an upward uptake of political office holders from the private sector.
