Before his birth in Esplugues de Llobregat, his parents, Mounir Nasraoui and Shaila Ebana, were living in the Rocafonda neighbourhood of Mataró and were going through serious financial difficulties. During the pregnancy, two neighbours became a vital source of support for the couple. One of them was a Gambian-born resident who worked as a taxi driver in Mataró and was named Lamine — a name meaning “the faithful” in Arabic. 🇬🇲 Now, this does not necessarily mean Lamine Yamal was named directly after that Gambian taxi driver, but the story shows that a Gambian man named Lamine was part of his parents’ life during an important period before his birth.
