@nourishingapothecary: Stop blaming every hormonal symptom on “low progesterone” or “oestrogen dominance.” Women’s reproductive health is more nuanced than that. Spotting before your period doesn’t automatically mean low progesterone. An irregular cycle can’t be understood from one hormone result. And a “Day 21 progesterone” test isn’t particularly useful if you didn’t actually ovulate around Day 14. This is why I want to understand the whole cycle. When I’m assessing reproductive hormones, I may look at hormones early in the follicular phase, then progesterone approximately 7 days after ovulation. But blood tests are only one part of the assessment. I also want to know: When did you actually ovulate? How long is your follicular phase? How long is your luteal phase? Are you spotting before your period? What is your cervical mucus doing? Are your cycles consistent month to month? What other symptoms are occurring throughout the cycle? Because the same symptom can have multiple possible explanations. The goal isn’t to find one hormone to blame. It’s to understand the physiology of your individual cycle and work out what the pattern is actually telling us. This applies whether you’re trying to conceive or simply trying to understand what’s happening with your cycle.
