@s24english: Somali traders are exploring new routes to bring goods into the country as security threats around the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Strait of Hormuz disrupt maritime traffic. Goods imported from Asia have traditionally reached Somalia through Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Regional tensions are now pushing some traders to test direct shipments from exporting countries. Mogadishu Port Director Mohamed Ali Nur Ameriko said a ship carrying sugar recently arrived directly from Sri Lanka for the first time. The move aims to protect Somalia’s supply chains and reduce potential delays and rising transport costs caused by insecurity in the region.
