@alkaline1901: Abena stood frozen, her breathing shallow as the chilling words in the diary burned into her eyes. “I’m no longer living, I’m dead.” A heavy, suffocating cold settled over the room. Tears spilled down Abena's cheeks as she raised her head to look at her sister. Araba was still sitting in the corner, but her pale eyes were filled with tears, silently falling onto her ironed uniform. She looked utterly heartbroken. "Mummy! Daddy! Come quick!" Abena screamed, scrambling out of the room. Her parents rushed into the hallway. Without a word, Abena thrust the open diary into her mother's hands, pointing at the red ink. Her mother read the line, her face draining of color, while her father stood paralyzed in disbelief. Before either of them could utter a word, the loud ring of the living room landline shattered the heavy silence. Her father, hands trembling, reached for the phone and answered. It was the Senior Housemistress from Araba's school, her voice choked with heavy sobs. "Mr. Matthew... I am so, so sorry to call you with this news. We have been trying to reach you since last week..." the housemistress wept. "The school bus carrying the Form Three students... it had a fatal accident on the highway the day the midterm break started. Araba... she didn't make it. She passed away at the scene." The receiver slipped from her father's hand, crashing onto the tile floor. A gasping scream tore from her mother's throat. Desperate to deny the horrific truth, both parents and Abena turned and rushed straight into Araba’s bedroom. They burst through the door—and stopped dead in their tracks. Araba was standing right there in the middle of the room, bathed in a soft, gentle light. She was no longer in her uniform, but in her favorite floral dress. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at her grieving family with endless tenderness. "Mummy... Daddy... Abena..." Araba whispered, her voice like a soft breeze from far away. "I’m so sorry. I just wanted to come home one last time to say goodbye." "Araba, my baby, no!" her mother cried out, lunging forward with open arms to hold her daughter. But as her mother reached out, Araba offered one last, mournful smile. Right before their very eyes, her body began to dissolve into fading, golden light. "I love you," her faint voice echoed through the room one final time. And then, in their very face, she vanished completely. Her mother’s arms closed around empty air, and she collapsed onto her knees, letting out an earth-shattering scream of agony. Her father fell beside her, clutching her as heavy sobs wracked his body. On the floor where Araba had sat every single day rested only her neatly folded school uniform, her sandals, and her open diary—leaving the family broken in the empty silence of the room.
