@thetimes: Why has coffee become so expensive?⁠ ⁠ Today’s coffee drinkers are unlikely to be so pleased with the price, which has risen faster than that of almost any other item on supermarket shelves in recent years. ⁠ ⁠ According to the market research agency Assosia, a bag of Taylors of Harrogate’s Lazy Sunday ground coffee cost an average of £3.76 in 2021. Today it costs £5.56, 48 per cent more.⁠ ⁠ The true rise has been even steeper due to shrinkflation. In 2023, Taylors reduced the bag’s weight from 227g to 200g, meaning it is really now 68 per cent more expensive.⁠ ⁠ Taylors isn’t the only company charging more. The age of the £5 flat white on the high street is nigh.
