1. The cheerful fog “oh you know, same old” (vague and nothing and it’s delivered happily). 2. The curious why “what makes you ask”. (Deliver it warmly and you will have an actual conversation instead of an interrogation). 3. The compliment pass “that’s a great question, I’m not going to answer it” (This one gets a laugh every single time and that ends it cleanly). 4. The honest decline “I’d rather not get into it but I’m glad that you asked” 5. The topic gift (You answer a different question. Generously) “you know what’s been great? I’ve had time to fix the back porch- let me tell you what I found under there”. 6. The boring answer. True. Complete. Deadly dull. E.g “how much did the house cost”? Ans: “More than I wanted. The rates were what they were”.(Nobody follows up on boring 😅 Boring is a door that closes itself). 7. The future file “if that ever changes, you’ll hear from me” (Good for kids, dating, job kinda question) 8. The flip “You first” (Delivered light and playful) E.g how much do you make? 9. The one word “Nope”(Smile and keep moving. Confidence is the whole delivery) 10. The broken record (same sentence. Same tone. Third time- Not louder, not sharper. Identical) It tells them that there’s no new version that you’re going to get here. 11. The name it. “That’s the third time you’ve asked and I’m going to keep giving you the same answer” (Say it kindly. You’re not accusing them- you’re informing them. 12. The walk. “I’m going to get a drink-can I bring you something?”
