i think its because the hotel clicked some fishy links on their end. its usually some randos email requesting for room availability and then it'll say "there was some bad reviews on your hotel that was posted on booking.com, -paste link with booking.com url- can you verify if this review is real? i would like to stay with your hotel as i see its a beautiful place and i think it'll be great to celebrate my upcoming birthday yadaa yadaa yadaa..." if someone is "clever" to click on the link, then the scammer can have access into the hotel PMS, and they can have all the infos they need. It happened to the PMS hotel im working with once. but it wasnt on our end, it was from the vendor side. So, their firewall got breached, the scammer was able to get infos on people's booking details that were made from their booking engine. it was hectic. Anyhow, if you receive any links on whatsapp asking to verify your credit card. ignore. hotels wouldn't do that🤣

I was scammed too.. The transaction named as "Google Service". Keep deducting $4.70 everyday. Becareful guys. Always check your transactions.

Booking.com been very unsafe . To many scam . To avoid being scammed we should contact the hotel or booking for confirmation of the booking . Not only booking.com but any platform . No one will send a WhatsApp or text message regarding booking .

it happened to me last summer too. i booked a hotel in Dubrovnik thru booking.com and 3 days before we arrived ,I received a text from WhatsApp that I need to confirm my booking or else it will be canceled . There was a link for the hotel and I opened it and requested me to write down my card no. as i paid thru my visacard.. I immediately got suspicious and contacted Booking.com. Lo and behold Booking.com sent a reply that they dont do business thru WhatsApp or any messages, only by email communication and might be scam. Glad that I have the common sense to ask first before I did it or my whole savings gone. . It is the same with banks, if someone sends you a link, do not open.

booking.com i nvr trust them ah.. agoda still the best and ALWAYS book and pay. dont ever go for the ' hold price, pay later, pay at hotel ' option. gonna cost abit more but no problem wth the booking.

guys, try to keep your "Online" under payment controls to OFF. if you require to use it online such as for Grab services or other online payment, switch it ON manually then OFF back. if like me kiasu, i keep everything OFF and only ON when i need it and OFF back after that.

This happened exactly same to me from booking.com before. But luckily, i feel like scams & never click any link. After that I have directly contacted the hotel if they need any confirmation from the booking, I have reported this matter both from the hotel & booking.com.

I had a similar experience with air bnb asking me to verify my details via a WhatsApp msg. I was lucky enough not to click it but to go to the Airbnb app and check there instead. Be careful out there!! The scammers are really getting smarter and smarter. How they got my exact booking details I honestly have no idea!!

Same goes for CPF. Received a call regarding urgent to meetup to update nominees for dependent protection scheme. Do not believe that. It is a scam. No government or private insurer should call you to arrange last minute meetup. Don't believe that. Just hangup the phone and block the number.

i seriously don't like to put card details especially cvv at any website bcoz we kinda give full access to use our money.. i preferrred the old way..thru bank online banking..but not all places accpt online banking

I received the same text twice via WS and from different numbers. The thing is, I’ve cancelled the booking months ago but received the text months later. At first I thought the host overlooked the booking cancellation so I informed them about the it. Then, they changed their profile pic & website link to ButikHola. Thought it was the end of the story. But a few days before I traveled, I received the same text from same accommodation ‘host’ via different number. From that day, I knew damn well it was a scam scheme. DISCLAIMER; I believe it was not coming from actual/original accommodation’s host. They only communicate with clients thru booking.com’s chat.
