Honestly, we need more moms like her. This is called tough love. Not everyone is going to coddle you. She just didn’t want her daughter to give up and rot. She wanted her to keep pushing, keep going, and not give up on herself.

She is both the best mother and the worst mother: a mother willing to do anything for her dying child… except let her go. And at the complete expense of another child. I despise her, but I also understand. Because if I had a way to try and save my baby, what wouldn’t I do to make that happen? She was extreme, but that’s what heartbreak and desperation do to a person. You just won’t ever convince anyone that she loved her other kids as much as she loved Kate.

The mom was in denial she thought she needed to push the daughter bc she would live a long life. So she just wanted her not to dwell in her sickness. In the books this daughter actually does go on to live.

As someone with a chronic illness since i was born that affects my pancreas and lungs and now heading for lung transplant evaluation she was a terrible mother kate was so exhausted from fighting every single second of her life and her mom didn’t understand she was to far in her own denial to comfort her daughter sometimes trying to push an ill person to keep fighting doesn’t help it just pro longs their pain and makes them feel like they didn’t do enough

Like I get that you’ll do anything and I mean ANYTHING for your kid(s) but that don’t mean ima sacrifice one for another I’ve watched the whole movie the mom never had sympathy for the younger child it was selfish for her to do so and the older sister seen it
