@jendulski: Loving a reactive dog sometimes means letting go of what we think a dog’s life is supposed to look like and asking a different question: What makes their life feel safe? For some of our dogs, the answer is their own tiny home. Their own yard. Windows to watch the world without having to be in the middle of it. Heat in the winter, air conditioning in the summer, a soft bed, people they trust and, maybe most importantly, peace. They don’t have to learn to love every dog. They don’t have to be comfortable with every stranger. They don’t have to become someone different just to prove their life has value. Sometimes rescue isn’t about changing the dog. Sometimes it’s about changing the world around them. That’s why we built the Lighthouses. Because the hard dogs matter. The misunderstood dogs matter. The dogs who may need us for the rest of their lives matter. One life. Their life. And it deserves to be a good one. This is Rescue Reimagined.
How come that little sweetie wouldn’t be adoptable? I’m just curious he seems so adorable and sweet. I love dogs so much.

I took on my sons reactive dog when he passed away... a lot of people thought I shouldn't but there was no way I wasnt gonna love him like my son would if he was alive. He too has his little home with comforts❤️

Not every pup is the same. Lost my girl Daisy 3 days ago. She never liked to go in the car, didn’t like other dogs. She just wanted to be with me and my wife, sit on the covered deck and enjoy her yard. They don’t have to be anything other than what they want to be. RIP Daisy, she was my baby.

my reactive girl crosed the Rainbow Bridge today after a long and good life. It was a challenge having a reactive dog but I wouldn't change a thing- except that she had to go.

My dog is very reactive. His 1st owner unalived himself in the house and when he got to me my apartment caught fire and he escaped by jumping out a window. He’s not a fan of other dogs or ppl but he’s the absolute best thing to ever happen to me. ppl tell me all the time he’s “aggressive” and “antisocial”. He’s not. They just don’t understand. Thank you for loving them the way they deserve to be loved 🫶

I have a reactive dog and he is a complete love bug/wiggle butt, just like this one, with the people he has chosen to love. He doesn't like most people or other animals and that's ok. We work hard to keep everyone safe, including him.

Bless you! I've alwaysvhad dogs but just in the lastcouple of years I've rescued/fostered reactive dogs. They do love. They are loyal. They can and do learn. And they need us more than most dogs. Whatever cruelty they have experienced to have ingrained the personality that's so reactive doesn't mean they are not worthy.

I have a reactive dog in for light the first 8 months 9 months I felt like maybe I'm not the right fit for the dog maybe there would be somebody better for this dog but it turns out that as I work with her she keeps getting better and as she gets better world opens up just a little bit more but it's going to stay small

We have a pit bull we found 2 years ago emaciated and pregnant Clearly abused. Took her in. Vet helped us with the puppies. She was so reactive to men and other dogs. Gets along great with my male except she attacked him twice within 2 years. She just snapped Luckily I was here. He isn’t a fighter. People told me to get rid of her. Put her to sleep. I’ve owned this breed 28 years now. I would never give her to anyone nor would I end her life. She is the sweetest dog ever with us. She loves my male They play so well. They just get separated every single time we leave this house. Now at the vet she doesn’t bark at the male workers. She has gotten so much better being loved so well but still reactive with other dogs

I had to put down a reactive dog a decade ago, I wish this would have been an option for her. I tried so hard to find her a safe place to go

I lost my baby 2 months ago. I’ve been trying to decide what to do next. I’m thinking about maybe adopting or spending time with senior pups so they can feel the love they deserve.
