One year ago, this video sparked a viral moment and 200,000 of you found my community on instragram. ❤️ Yes from ONE Video.    To celebrate its anniversary (and now that Instagram allows longer reels), I’m sharing an updated 3-minute version- because discipline in toddlerhood is still one of the most misunderstood parenting stages.   Discipline starts earlier than many people think-around 9 months old. But that doesn't mean punishment and it doesn't mean fear. Instead, it means calm, consistent teaching rooted in connection and communication.   Around this age, toddlers enter their cause-and-effect era: 👉 “What happens when I throw this?” 👉 “Do you yell? Laugh? Gasp?” To them, any reaction is a reward. So a big “NO!” can sometimes reinforce the very behavior you’re trying to stop.   Here’s the shift: You have to show more than you tell. “Show me gentle hands.” (Then model it on their arm or a stuffed animal) “Food stays on the tray.” (Model eating with a big “Mmmm!”) Toddlers learn through: ✔️ Repetition ✔️ Imitation ✔️ Your attention So your job is to: ➡️ Set the boundary ➡️ Show the preferred behavior ➡️ Reinforce when they do it ➡️ Follow through calmly when needed. “If you throw food, I take it away.” “If you hit, I hold your hands to keep us safe.” You’re not being harsh. You’re being clear. You’re helping them feel safe, understood, and guided.   Want more on tantrums, time-ins, and toddler discipline that works without the yelling or confusion? Check out my Toddlers & Tantrums Course, link in bio, which has helped thousands of parents build calm, confident boundaries that stick.   When did you first feel like you needed to start setting boundaries? I’d love to hear.   (Original creator of the clip-DM or tag me for credit!)
