I love seeing it in the limelight, but I forever fear the fakeness and new hate that comes along with it. It’s one of those, what happens happens, and speak up when we have to.

i totally feel you on this, horror is best when it comes from other lovers of horror i think, the people that really engage with the genre. i think that’s why obsession was so good, you could tell the director/writer was into horror. and that’s not to say we don’t want new faces in horror because of course we do, newbies always welcome! i just want to horror im consuming to feel like it’s coming from a genuine place… if that makes ANY sense 😅

Having been here for too many decades, I can tell you that we've been here before and will no doubt be here again. It will suck for a while, but THEY will lose interest eventually, the genre will falter for a bit, then good things will start to happen again, and then THEY will want to get back in on it. Ad infinitum.
The sad thing is that most of the truly talented will get left behind because the people with the money don't understand the genre (and don't want to), so everything becomes homogenised and palatable for the sake of bigger profits. To them, money matters, and the people, talent and art don't.
Bleak, I know.

Yess 👏 I love that there’s more horror content, but I’m scared it will become mass produced and mainstream because of it

I am happy because of the amount of recent content, but I definitely agree with you

I believe horror hits mainstream to make people feel something about the world - same as dystopian media BUT I find with horror it reflects the horror that mass can see - eg obsession. but man I miss the niche give me an eco-horror

It’s such a trend at the moment but the really fantastic horror gets overlooked for the more palatable imo. If you cut me open I would bleed horror and like you I would love the indies to get their moment 🖤

Couldn’t have said this better myself. It really feels like a bandwagon corporations are jumping on. People who openly don’t respect it write it (badly) to cash in on the moment. They don’t understand the deep roots of where the tropes and conventions come from and why they matter and so the work always feels cliche and flat. It’s also exhausting for writers who have always written it, who are mostly still being cast aside for cool new chic non horror writers so they can try on the hat while it’s popular and then exit the genre entirely [Crying]
