@askadamahmed: How can Australians be struggling to find good jobs… while employers are struggling to find local applicants? We recently advertised for a qualified accountant in Sydney. The number of applications we received from local candidates? Pretty much: ZERO. Every application came from overseas. And at a time when Australia is having a huge debate about immigration, cost of living and jobs, something just doesn't add up. If Australian employers can't find qualified locals willing to apply — should they hire workers from overseas? 👇 I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts. Disclaimer: Based on a real case. Where are you advertising? I’m starting to wonder if something else is also going on and people in Australia aren’t seeing the ads. Seems weird but how are the overseas applicants seeing the jobs.

Not really a contradiction. The job offer will dictate the people who respond, quality employers will advertise accordingly and receive quality applicants. Talking from experience as an employer who learned this the hard way

how much you paying them. a skills shortage is businesses complaining they can't find a 5yr+ experience and wanting to pay them first yr entry level wages.

Having citizenship or permanent residency can be the most valuable credential. I have been reached out for employment opportunities plenty of times only to be told off because I was on visa

my take on immigration is skills that we need or we have a shortage of, government should be sitting down with business getting the input what is needed then make a immigration plan not just do it for political means If a dog walker and beautician are deemed as skilled then we have a serious problem

keep overseas applications out and you will find plenty local applicants. it is more to do with how desperate one is to get the job; which I feel locals are absolutely not, so they apply based on the skillset or likes&dislikes
