I just really hope this next wave of social work generation can make some changes because I don’t even know what I learned in school that actually applied to the workforce and you’re right most positions require or prefer qualifications that they’re not set up to support you to obtain. Luckily, when I started my current role they got together to develop a supervision system so we could get licensed. But I feel like the social work profession is not as professional and organized as we need it to be

I think it just depends where you got your MSW. My program had a 1 Unit Workshop where they taught us how to negotiate pay, job hunting, and job titles.

I was shocked when you said community health worker/outreach/ case management as someone working on getting a public health bachelor degree I thought those were for us. I’m hearing that we have a lot of crossovers and it’s a lot of overlap.

A MSW program and school of SW are completely different. School of SW teaches you these things, a MSW program doesn’t.

Honestly as a MSW, the SW role and pay is a joke. In concept it’s great but in practice it sucks. It doesn’t pay, the stress is high, the exam is the worse, the resources are limited, etc etc. Been in the field for a couple years as a medical SW and looking at leaving the field all together. I feel like grad school wasn’t honest with us about the reality of work life. And don’t get started on those student loans I need to pay on a SW salary🙃😒

Wow are you serious ? Here I am with my bachelors already stressed because positions are limited so I’m like hmmm let me go get my masters degree I should have more options. But yes. All I’ve been seeing are many MSW (LICSW of LSW required) positions in the field. So frustrating
