Released in 2004, I, Robot showed a future where humanoid robots could work alongside people, follow strict rules, and become part of everyday life. But the idea goes much further back. Asimov’s I, Robot, published in 1950, was a collection of nine stories exploring what could happen when increasingly intelligent robots became part of society. He introduced the famous Three Laws of Robotics, designed to prevent robots from harming humans while still allowing them to obey orders and protect themselves. Asimov also imagined robots becoming more capable, computers becoming increasingly important, and machines taking over many routine tasks. In 1964, he even made predictions about what the world might look like in 2014, including smarter computers, robotic machines, automated vehicles and robots capable of performing household work. Some of his predictions were surprisingly close to reality. Of course, we’re not living in the world of I, Robot yet. But with AI systems becoming more capable and humanoid robots learning to move, work and interact with people, some of Asimov’s old science fiction is starting to feel less fictional. He wasn’t predicting the future perfectly. He was imagining where technology could take us. And that might be the most fascinating part. #movie #irobot
