Both UES and UWS are great for woman in 50s. don’t do downtown - you’ll appreciate the parks and vibe up town. peeps suggesting the west village for you are wrong. stay below 86 on both sides for age range socializing. UES is busier but less personality and less convenient subways. i frequent restaurants downtown but appreciate living and having my mornings uptown.

I have lived on both sides of the city east side 80th & York. Every young girl and hedge fund family live on the east side. Great lunch places and all the museums easy access to LGA. Slow nightlife some very good hotel bars. Not easy to get around the city but better now with the new 2nd ave Subway. Bloomingdales 59 lex . I live on the upper west side now in the 70’s & CPW. The upper west offers some very good restaurants easy access to Central Park and Riverside Park. It’s a bit family, friendly less pretentious than the east side great access to all of lower Manhattan via the 1-2-3 trains. Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle are only blocks away. Bethesda Fountin, the Reservoir the boat house in the park are all favorites. Great wine bars along Columbus and coffee shops. The #1 Trader Joe’s in the country.

UWS is more quaint feeling, better food and bars and just has the quintessential NYC vibe. UES is way bigger. Definitely more commercial. Food and drink getting better. But sometimes feels contrived.

Just because you're single, I would suggest the upper east side otherwise as someone who grew up here and sells homes in both neighborhoods, I always suggest the upper west side to people regardless of age

Uws here. I love our access to the parks. Riverside park is fantastic in the summer… and there are parks and green spaces all along the river and the Westside highway now. Great for biking, running, walking in warm months. We have Lincoln center and easy access to broadway. It’s a little less pretentious and more academic on uws… or it used to be. Everything is mixed now. And there are singles everywhere.

UES also varies a lot by area! I’m in the lower part of UES and love it, everything that I need is so convenient to me including that Trader Joe’s. There are also a lot of places to be social and it’s close to a lot of museums that have events. It’s also super easy to get to LGA. Def recommend visiting both and looking at various blocks within each 90s feels different than the 60s on each side.

Tudor City. It’s midtown east and has a beautiful little neighborhood above the fray, but right near everything.

I’m on the UES and love it, been here for almost a year. Keep in mind UES has different parts so depends what you are looking for and what your budget is. West of Park is high end and expensive shopping. More east coast classy vibes. UWS is more hippie. Singles on both sides but lots of families. Not sure if you have looked into Gramercy Park but that’s also a good spot to consider. I know a lot of divorced people that live there and it’s a great location because you are between UES and downtown. Single wise (I’m early 30s) I definitely still meet singles on the UES. However, it’s not like downtown where it feels like 70% of the population is single😅 I will say, it’s a pain in the butt to date people outside of your neighborhood and I swore I would never say that prior to moving to NYC! But I finally get it and all my friends say the same thing.

The only thing I know about Texans are stereotypes, which of course I have no idea if that’s at all accurate for you. But based on that, I’d say UES. I’ve lived on the UES for 25 years.

55 single and live on UWS. Love it here. Closer to both parks… more casual and laid back than UES. Trains are better too
