Just celebrated 34 yrs of marriage and 39yrs together, and yes it is hard! Not because we don’t love each other, but life happens and you grow and change. In those moments it is hard and you have to put in the work! Not everyone saying it is “hard” are saying their spouse is a burden or difficult. It is simply that just loving someone is not enough, you have to like and respect them, all of them and all the ways they will grow and change and yes that is work and sometimes it is hard.

I will die on the hill of if being married is difficult then either you are married to the wrong person or one of you is not putting in the physical or emotional work necessary to make it successful. Life throws hard things at you every single day and being with your partner should make them easier to deal with.

I’ve seen this kind of post several times now. And it makes me sad. I adore my husband. We have a beautiful marriage. It’s also really hard sometimes and we fight like hell to keep it strong. Life is hard, people are messy and that’s just reality. It’s not a badge of honor if it doesn’t feel hard for you. Just like it’s not shameful if it does feel hard at times for others. I can appreciate the spirit of this post but I think it leans a bit condescending and assumes anyone who adores their husband and is on the same team but also feels like it can be hard must somehow also see their spouse as a burden. Which just isn’t true.

I agree! But I do understand where some people are coming from. A Godly marriage is hard sometimes. Submitting yourself to your husband. Sacrificing yourself to your wife. It’s not a natural instinct. But choosing to do it everyday is easy when you have a good spouse. 🩵
