🙌🏻 FINALLY! I work at a corporate practice 🫣 and free first exams eat up our schedule. The clients that utilize the free first exam often do not perform any additional services, they spend 20-30 minutes with staff and doctor, and often do not return.

i think if anything we should be rewarding long time clients. the new clients are just gonna shop hospital to hospital and get the best discount every time. why not give the benefit to clients who show loyalty and respect.

We do free first exams for pets adopted from our local shelter. It’s a “coupon” they get with their adoption kits from the shelter. They are supposed to vet check within a week of adoption. It’s a great way to get them in and educate them on preventions, other recommended vaccines for our area, etc.

We specify one free exam per new CLIENT, not per pet and we don't require them to mention it. Also we let them know that they can expect an estimate for any treatments, testing and/or medications they agree to do before they do anything. Most of our NCNP appts are new to the area and/or a sick visit where their usual vet can't fit them in. We do what we can to meet our patients and clients needs. if that means a $70 waived consult fee, that's ok.

We ALWAYS require the exam fee up front as a pre-payment. If they don’t show up, we forfeit it & count it as a no show. Which then we require the pre-payment from them for a year from their no show date

I love working in specialty. $300 for our Docs time. 1 hour long appointment. People come to us when they are serious about treating their pet- not just because it’s a free visit.

Very much in agreement with this. I’ve always thought it devalues what we do. If you want to give something away, do a free nail trim. Don’t discount the exam as it took me 8 years of school to be qualified to do the exam…

The problem is people think EVERYTHING is free, and don’t understand that it’s just the exam itself, not diagnostics or medications or services.
