I think one of my biggest irks with Charlie was suggesting young college age girls get a Mrs Degree. Basically go to college, great, but go to find a husband. His ideology of traditional values of the wifey at home pumping out 8 kids while the husband works is going to be quite difficult in the economy we live in. I believe a woman could be a wife and mother if she chooses and they can sustain that 1 income home. However, having two grown young men with wives I have watched the struggle with them all working. They have pretty decent jobs too. Neither son is yet to be able to buy a home. Especially after carrying student loan debt, vehicles (not new), food, rent and utilities there is just not much left. So, to think this man would try to indoctrinate this ideal as “the best way” to college age kids could be really bad advice! Some may absolutely be able to swing it but there are just too many factors to say this is a feasible option to most people in today’s market. And let’s face facts here, it’s not like Erica was Suzy Homemaker. I mean, look at here now. I just think that was a really irresponsible thing for this man to do. What if some young couple actually took this advice and struggled! What if they had to get on welfare! Gasp! What would Charlie have to say about them then? I certainly didn’t celebrate this man’s death. In fact I cried. Not because I even kind of like him. But because it was just another act of absolute unnecessary ugliness in this world.

I grew up as a Methodist. I was very active in the church. When I went to college I would help with the outreach events at the Wesley Foundation. I felt the pastor was one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met. My roommate was an aspiring pastor-also very smart. He eventually went on to be one. However, the Pastor was vehemently anti-conservative, very political, and VERY liberal. He looked down his nose at conservatives, he was well-educated …and seemed to believe that he was soooooo much smarter than conservatives. My roommate was having sex with his girlfriend (she was a member of the Wesley Foundation as well). All were good people with good hearts, but lacked any trace of traditional morals or values . This seemed true no matter the Methodist church I visited. I tried the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, but they are too literal and seemed to be more interested in being good instead of doing good. I have NOT been to church in years. I’m glad to see a Methodist pastor step up and speak out…I just fear there’s a raging liberal in you waiting to scream out what he really believes politically. I see traces of the same superiority mindset as I’ve seen in others. I hope I’m wrong because I do enjoy your perspective. Thanks.

My personal take on theology more closely resembles Rev Williams than Kirk’s and I’m an independent when it comes to politics. Trying to be as objective as possible, I’m not sure agree with calling Kirk’s actions predatory. The reasons listed seem to assume a lot about his motivations and also don’t quite accurately describe the environment. Most college’s professors are overwhelmingly liberal with a ratio of about 3 to 1. Fields that cover the topics Kirk was addressing have an even wider gap. It hardly seems predatory to go into an environment where one’s views are in the minority of what is being presented to college kids. If colleges would provide a greater diversity and balance of thought to students perhaps Kirk wouldn’t have felt motivated to do what he did. I didn’t really know much about Kirk until last year, but from what I have seen, he posted many videos where professors and very knowledgeable students also debated him. It wasn’t just ill prepared kids (whowere likely just repeating concepts they heard from their professors). As to his motivations, it could be equally argued that he simply wanted to provide students with another viewpoint in a overwhelmingly one sided environment and his purpose for posting the videos was so that other students could also be exposed to other viewpoints.

There is a huge hidden nugget in there. Your explanation of how well one does or does not understand the breadth of their knowledge. I always have to fall back to Rumsfeld's you don't know what you don't know, but it lacks nuance (and yes, I know it wasn't just from him, his was just the funniest). You're totally going in the quote pile!

This take is legit. But after following you for a few weeks I really have to wonder what you have personally been through to have your mindset/heart/approach? Personally I have a lived experience hypothesis forming about empathy and the people that have it.. that it takes an extreme level of personal suffering and the iron resolve to learn through every travesty.. do you think your take is from your education levels or lived trauma? Or both? Or neither ? lol just genuinely curious!

Day 2 of asking you to put your videos into a playlist so I can mass listen to them while doing other stuff. I am not a Christian anymore but still believe in the same god I grew up with (and think we’re all praying to the same god) but your talking points make me want to join your church lol

nah, we can't say everyone with some hate in their heart is a horrible human being. there's not one soul on this planet that doesn't get angry. we have feelings. its healthy to say you want someone's demise as long as one reflects and remembers the damage it continues to have if we don't break that hateful cycle.

Off-topic to this day, it’s astonishing to me that people that are Trump supporters call themselves Christian. It’s like an oxymoron.

I get he has said good things too. but i don't think that cancels out the bad. once you tell a young black boy to their face that civil rights was a mistake and that he shouldn't have rights, i don't think any amount of good things said will save your image in my mind. i think he was a bad person who sometimes said "good things" when it was beneficial to do so. Hitler can say "we only want our quiet and the right to live" which sounds nice, but he's still Hitler. But i know several people who are the opposite. They've seen all the bad about Charlie and yet believe the good clips vindicate him. or i guess find it easy to pretend the bad clips don't exist.
