the issue with dry weddings is that a lot of people want the vibe alcohol brings but without the alcohol and that’s simply not going to happen if there’s no lifetime of socialization behind it like in certain cultures

This comment section is insane. I don’t drink. Never did. Don’t judge those that do. I had open bar with top shelf at my wedding. I know some of my guests have extremely busy lives and sometimes a wedding is a perfect time for them to unwind and have fun. Party on!

If I were to have a wedding, it would be a dry wedding 😅 I want a wedding, not an elopement, so I wouldn’t change my dream of having a wedding. If someone doesn’t want to come to a dry wedding, no problem. If they want to pregame, go for it, I don’t care.

why would you want to deal with drunk people at your own wedding? rowdy, disorientated and annoying by the end of the night and you can’t even drink

If you’re insinuating that a loved one’s wedding may not be worth your time or fun because they aren’t providing booze you have a major problem. Normal people with healthy relationships with alcohol do not think like that

While I do drink sometimes and I am having a wedding in a month (and not drinking at it but still paying for guests drinks bc I want them to have fun). I wouldn’t care if I went to a wedding that had no drinking. Because IT IS is all about them, it’s their party. Don’t go if you need to drink.

I honestly dont agree. with every other day being filled with caring about other people, what they want, what they think. I think the wedding is the perfect time to be selfish and just think about what you want and what you need. and if my friends and family have a problem with that then they don't have to come. I dont put that much weight into other people's opinions🤷‍♀️

Where I grew up, culturally, I didn’t know that people “did” alcohol at their weddings until I was in college. Lol. I was in my 20s before I was at a wedding that served 😝😝😝.

In the vegan matter, i mean, i am not paying for the death of animals just because someone cant be without eating meat for one meal haha you can have really good food being vegan. If i ever get married, my wedding would be 100% vegan, is my morals and i would be a hypocrit. Alcohol wise, unless the bride or the groom are addicts or have some religion that dont allow drinking, i dont see the issue of people drinking besides you (sorry if my grammar is off, english is not my languange)

Hmmm, idk. I actually have close friends that are vegan non drinkers and I've never felt a way attending their vegan alcohol free parties because I love them and want to spend time with them. It's genuinely never crossed my mind. Maybe because the vegan food they eat is always so good😅. This is such an interesting convo. I think everyone is entitled to celebrate the way they want to celebrate. It's a wedding/ party it's not mandatory to attend if it's not something I want to attend🫣

My boyfriend and I don’t drink. I don’t want to feel tempted with alcohol when I see my friends getting silly while drinking at my wedding. Of course I want them to have fun. But they can drink when they get home? If they need drinks to have fun, that’s on them 🤷‍♀️it’s a few hours and how I feel at my wedding is forever

Veganism is a moral philosophy - serving dead animals when you don't have to and when you believe the very idea is immoral would be going against your morals and principles and you would be paying money into an industry you are against. The alcohol thing is debatable. The idea that vegans should serve meat to their guests would be 'forcing' them to go against their moral principles, and non vegans can eat vegan for a day. If the people throwing said party aren't actually vegan but just hopping on some trend - that's a different story. I agree with all of your other points! Parties are for other people as much as they are for you.

if someone is sober because they have issues or addiction with alcohol could you see how it might be upsetting for them to be around it and have everyone else intoxicated at their own wedding? of course hosts have an obligation to provide a good time for their guests but the guests also have an obligation to give up the spotlight for a minute and go with someone else’s ideas on their wedding day

So if people who don’t drink extend understanding to others and allow alcohol at their wedding, that is being a good member of the community, but asking a drinker to extend that same understanding and flexibility toward someone who isn’t comfortable with booze at their wedding is unreasonable?

disagree.. big time. it's theyre party. they could do whatever they want. if I would want to drink then I would it buy myself. also really alcohol is a drug and unhealthy.. it doesn't have to be on party's all the time
