This is great. However, there was no contestation between Faku's sons Mqikela and Ndamase. In fact, it was Ndamase (a few decades older than Mqikela) who ensured that Mqikela ascended to the throne. Ndamase acknowledged Mqikela as the only king of AmaMpondo, and Mqikela led a united Mpondo nation for about 11 years before the Colony divided the nation. The division of the nation into Eastern & Westen Mpondoland was primarily because of Mqikela's anti-colonial stance (which included protecting Griqua rebel leaders, Mpondomise king Mhlontlo, and Xhosa king Sarhili etc.) Mqikela's resistance, compared with Ndamase's son Nkqwiliso's willingness to collaborate with the colony (marked by the sale of land along the Mzimvubu River in Port St Johns) led to the division.
