@benhaley_wx: So far the season has been quite uneventful in terms of tropical activity in the Atlantic. That was expected due to a rapidly strengthening El Niño, so it is not surprising. However, a brief 1-4 week period may open up in late September/early October where wind shear temporarily decreases, potentially allowing a couple of storms or maybe even a hurricane or two in the western half of the basin. Other factors will have to permit, such as a sufficiently moist lower level atmosphere (if the Saharan Dust Layer cooperates) and continued warm ocean waters. Just because we are in a very strong El Niño doesn't mean a hurricane or two is impossible. It only takes one to make or break a season. Stay tuned. #tropical #tropicalupdate #atlantic
