@dogtokwithalex: not asking permission! adopt or shop RESPONSIBLY, always. guilting people into an animal they don’t want / aren’t prepared for, is an A1 ticket BACK to the shelter for that animal. has this happened to you? #dogsoftiktok #goldenretriever #golden #rescue #rescuedog
Ethical Breeding over Shelters. Shelters over everything else.

I think people forget that if a dog is ethically bred it will always end up back with the breeder if the owner could no longer take care of it. That’s why there are so many doodles in shelters. They are not ethically bred

I adopted my dogs from shelters, but I will never ridicule someone for getting a dog from an ETHICAL breeder.

Adopt don't shop people are so weird. They don't understand shelter dogs are NOT for everyone and never will be. Shelter dogs have unknown backgrounds and unknown temperaments.

not to mention unless you're rescuing a puppy, you're risking taking on all of their previous trauma. that risk doesn't make sense for a lot of people especially those with kids

As someone who worked for a rescue, responsible ethical breeding IS A GOOD THING!!! Of course adopt but there would be less dogs in the shelters if we support ethical breeding and crack down on puppy mills

I think it’s weird getting a dog and expecting it to have a certain personality, it’s a living creature.. you wouldn’t want your child to have a certain personality either and a dog is a family member too. Sorry but that’s my opinion and I will always rescue dogs instead of supporting a breeder just because I want a designer dog. My dog is anxious and nervous but she is perfect just the way she is.

Someone told me “oh my daughter adopted her dog” when she heard that I bought mine. And I knew she her daughter was from a surrogate so I asked her “oh you adopted your daughter?” And she was like “no, I got a surrogate mother” and I was like “oh but there’s so many kids out there waiting for a home… you know, my parents adopted me and I am great.”

nothing wrong with an ethical breeder, adoption is always wonderful of course but really as long as you aren't supporting a mill or back yard breeder it's all good.

Ppl do not understand that ethical breeders are essential to keeping the breed alive and keeping dogs OUT of the shelters. It is just as ethical to shop from a good breeder. Attack the people that breed unethically not those who shop!

i got my dog from a breeder but she only lets her dogs have puppies every so many years to give them enough rest. the dogs are her pets so they’re super well cared for. before getting my dog me and my mom made sure the dogs were in a safe environment and the lady gave us updates on the dogs every week with videos and photos. Here’s my dog now:

I’d like to these comments saying some weird ah things (not to you Alex you’re an absolute sweetie) things are also different in other countries like there not being shelters at all I personally am living in Japan where that’s not a thing we looked for months but none and only 2 puppy shops on the island we live on so we went to one and ended up adopting my little baby. Key take away ask questions and listen before you judge!

We got two pure bred Maine Coon, not from a breeder but from a friend of ours who had an accidental litter of 8 kittens. If it wasn't like that we would have considered adopting from a shelter. we've had shelter cats before, but we live in a high story appartement with no garden, that makes adopting from a shelter difficult because it isn't always clear if the cats are used to go out or not.

How about we start charging people with a crime every time they give up a dog to a shelter becaus they realized a dog was not as fun as they wanted it to be. There should be tests and demands for anyone who gets a dog to make sure it’s not just a short fling and they actualy really want a dog

The argument that "There are plenty of dogs in shelters" makes the assumption that dogs are like toasters: they're all exactly the same, do the same things, and act the same way, the only difference between them is the age and appearance.

This is my rescue golden he fears everything, hates water, is reactive to men,and took years to learn to play or eat bones and do basic dog things. I can definitely understand why people wouldn’t want this behavior when getting a family dog. But he’s perfect for us and we love him so much ♥️
