@sterlingxdrake: “Wild Mountain Thyme” - Francis McPeake Though many know it as an Irish folk song, the tune originates in Scotland. Its roots lie in Robert Tannahill’s poem The Braes of Balquhidder written around 1800. McPeake reworked it into the version most of us know today more than a century later. The song found its audience during the Irish folk revival of the 1950s a movement dedicated to preserving and celebrating traditional music at a time when many feared it was disappearing. I often think of songs like this one and it’s influence on the Irish dysphoria amongst the west. It’s a tune you could just as easily have heard in Butte and other mining/ranching communities across the intermountain prairies of western Montana. #folk #ireland #banjo #western #trad
