@felix.tomas31: September 14, 2026 | Hainan, China 🇨🇳 Heavy and prolonged rains, caused by the interaction of a tropical depression's remnants over the South China Sea with cold air, led to widespread flooding on Hainan Island. Wuzhishan City in the central part of the island was hit particularly hard, recording 616.2 mm of precipitation in 24 hours—a record high for the urban area since observations began in 1958. In Wuzhishan, floodwaters inundated streets, cars, and electric bikes, disrupting water, gas, and power supplies in some areas. Rescuers evacuated 14 people trapped by the floodwaters in residential buildings, while four others were rescued in neighboring Baoting County. By 6:00 PM on September 14, over 55,000 people across Hainan had been evacuated from high-risk areas. Due to the threat of floods, landslides, and other impacts of the torrential rains, schools, businesses, shops, and public transport were closed in several districts.
