It just increases your homestead exemption. It doesn’t get rid of property taxes.

Currently if there is a change, municipalities will lose about 18% of revenue. They can tighten their belts just like we do.

It’s amazing how many people have no idea they are going to pay so much more if this passes. The 5% cap is on property value not the millage rate. Cities and counties can raise the millage rate but on top of that they will be charging assessment fees which they can do without a referendum. The fees will be more than you’re currently paying. Services don’t come free and people don’t work for free. Renters will take the biggest hit. Non homesteaded properties are not protected and their taxes will greatly increase then the property owner will pass that right on to the renter. Commercial properties are not protected, when their taxes increase they will pass that on the products they sell. So vote yes and get ready to pay more. Some cities and counties have already started approving these fees, and one city has already approved a 10% increase in their millage rate to prepare. Then there are the independent special districts that only collect one tax. This will cause severe cuts to those districts. Fire districts will take trucks off the street. 85% of their budget is personnel cost. Some counties like St.Lucie, Lee, and Manatee to name a few over 90% of their fire service is provided by independent special districts. There are all kinds of special districts, like mosquito, and storm water. Mosquitoes kill more people around the world than anything else. I’m all for saving money but it needs to be done in a thoughtful way that doesn’t affect services.

There is no benefit for zero taxes. Taxes pays for infrastructure like roads highways and government. I dont like paying taxes but everything around you will go up. They hope people aren't intelligent enough to understand. Some of the best countries in the world pays high taxes. But gets Healthcare, housing for seniors and many more things
