All you need to say is “I had to take care of a medical issue” if you don’t feel like oversharing and I excuse it (as long as it’s not a recurring thing). I feel bad when students overshare I just don’t need to know that about you!

I find it really strange that in American universities you have to explain your absences to professors. You are an adult paying (high) tuition, it is entirely your choice if you show up, just pass exams and assignments.
