@hewadpress4: 📍LONDON | September 15, 2026 | HewadPress:— Britain, the United States and the Netherlands have issued a joint cybersecurity warning about spyware allegedly used by Iranian state-linked hackers to target journalists, activists, dissidents and opposition groups worldwide. The malware family, identified as “CHOSEN BRICK,” is designed to steal emails, messages, contact lists and social-media information. It can also capture screenshots, activate a computer’s microphone and monitor a victim’s movements, according to Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre⁠. Officials said attackers often impersonate trusted contacts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram, gradually building confidence before persuading victims to download malicious Windows software. In some cases, fake documents—including fabricated medical scan results—were used as bait. The FBI’s technical advisory⁠ identifies related malware as “HEAVYGRAM” and attributes the campaign to cyber actors working on behalf of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security. The FBI said the operation appears intended to gather intelligence, leak stolen information and damage the reputations of targeted individuals. Some victims’ personal information was later published on pro-Iranian leak websites, potentially placing them at greater physical risk. Cybersecurity authorities advised potential targets to keep Windows and security software updated, avoid downloading programs from messages or unfamiliar sources, use strong passwords and activate multi-factor authentication. Iran’s embassy in London did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Reuters reported⁠.
