@1010wins923: If a big data center wants to move into New York State, they should give something back to the communities hosting them, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Tuesday. The governor announced a new framework calling on developers to invest at least $1 million for every megawatt of power their “energy-sucking” facilities use. Hochul’s office said the framework provides local governments with “critical guidance for any future negotiations with major tech companies and developers.” The money could go towards things like infrastructure, affordable housing, schools, childcare and public safety, Hochul said. “If a community chooses to hose one of these data centers, they should reap meaningful rewards and know that their community will be protected,” the governor said.
