@pollar.news: On Monday in Cardiff the leaders of Plaid Cymru, the SNP and Sinn Féin signed a memorandum saying each of their nations has the right to decide its own future, and calling on the British government to "prepare for, plan and facilitate constitutional change". They signed as party leaders, not as governments. The film draws one line and asks who gets to draw it. In 2016, 51.9 of every 100 votes inside Great Britain said leave the European Union. Count the same ballots inside smaller lines and the verdicts change: Scotland 38.0, Northern Ireland 44.2, Wales 52.5, England 53.4. Scotland drew its own line once. In 2014, 44.7 of 100 said yes to independence, on a vote two governments had signed for in Edinburgh. In 2022 the UK Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the Scottish Parliament cannot hold that vote alone. What would a vote say now? Nobody knows; these are polls, not counts. With undecided removed: Scotland 52 yes (Survation, August), Wales 32 (Survation, same weeks), Northern Ireland 42 for a united Ireland (Institute of Irish Studies and Sunday Times, May). Andy Burnham told John Swinney a referendum was off limits in July and repeated it in writing on 10 September. On Saturday in Dublin Donald Trump said he would love to see a united Ireland and "it may as well happen now". Downing Street answered the same day: the support the Good Friday Agreement requires is not there. That agreement holds the only written rule: London must call a border poll when it appears likely a majority would vote for a united Ireland. It does not say what likely means. Scotland asked for the same rule and was told no. The Prime Minister is expected to meet all three next month. I didn't realize that Wales voted to leave the EU, I always thought that England was the only part of the UK that voted to leave.

Talking about diversity then supporting separatism, accepting immigrants yet denying their neighbors, is this the values of The United Kingdom or a foreign ideology?

tbh a division in great Britain would be a desaster imagine the military being split up, almost impossible to divide it by 4 countries that one of many other major issues

Tbh I think independence is a conversation worth having if a region's people feel that strongly about it but sadly the world is headed down a dark road, war is on the horizon, dividing ourselves now just weakens us against the coming threats, Europe must stick together

I think scotland and ireland will go independent. I doubt Wales will but its likely a show of solidarity to attend the vote as well.

This not sustainable, it’s better united, maybe they can negotiate more autonomy of the states within the union tho.

I think Parliament wants Scotland and NI to rejoin the EU so they can then rejoin the EU under the face saving guise of keeping the UK together

But the real questions are if Scotland or wales leave the UK and say join the EU, won’t they again be a beneficiary like now? Will there be any frictions between the two? How would trade then look with the UK? The border? I feel we haven’t learnt from Brexit here, with all this hypothetical talk. Is the answer not just for the entirety of the British isles to move back into the EU sometime soon

Ultimately it's their decision... but if the UK dissolves, history will show that leaving the EU was the thin end of the wedge. The Soviet Union collapsed because it could no longer afford to be an emipre; what, perhaps, did in the UK?

The crown "unified" the united kingdom & any who opposed it claiming right to rule was technically guilty of treason to the crown; would you vote for independence now with an independent parliament & constitution?
