@cbsmiami: Florida deputies called for reinforcements to help remove a massive alligator from the backyard of a home south of Tampa, and it was all caught on video. Body cam footage posted by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office shows deputies initially estimating the alligator was 4 to 5 feet long as they tried to move it to a pond across the street. The gator hissed, snapped its tail and lunged at a deputy, prompting them to call a trapper. After a fight, the trapper removed the animal and measured it at 8 feet, 4 inches. "We were way off," a deputy said. Alligators are found in all 67 Florida counties, and officials warn that increased development and water-related activities can lead to more encounters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises people to keep a safe distance and never feed alligators, swim only in designated areas during daylight hours, and keep pets on a leash and at least 10 feet from the water's edge.
