@vaneliz_: There were a lot of things that were normalized when we were growing up simply because people didn’t question them the way we do now. But “that’s just how it was back then” isn’t an excuse anymore. We live in a time where we know better, and parents have a responsibility to teach better. The N-word has no business being in anyone’s casual vocabulary, regardless of race, and hearing elementary school kids throw it around like it means nothing is insane to me. They’re kids. They learn what’s acceptable from somewhere. What may have been normalized for us doesn’t have to be normalized for them. Teach them better.
