@lawwithalexg: People often assume lawyers are naturally aggressive, detached, or manipulative. But the way lawyers think and behave is often the result of years of training that changes how they approach information, uncertainty, and conflict. Their obsession with detail, instinct to question assumptions, ability to argue both sides, and tendency to look for weaknesses all come from a distinctive way of thinking. This is the hidden psychology behind how legal minds operate. #lawyerlife #legalmind #lawstudent #psychology #legalthinking

It's called "issue spotting" and if we miss one, we lose our license to do our job.

A lot of legal stuff doesn’t matter unless it matters. But then it matters a whole fucking bunch.

year one in law school we are taught to 1) debate “facts” on both sides of an issue regardless of our personal feelings or what the moral option is, 2) do this debate with our professors in front of a class of 50 and 3) that a single word can change the meaning of everything. Our exams are built on the idea of “being right is good but making an argument (even a wrong one) in the correct way is better.” Everyone hates lawyers for this attitude until they need one. 🤷

A woman who had spent years as a paralegal told me I had the personality of a lawyer. I always had my interpretations of what she meant, now it makes sense.

But also, we learn through practice that what the “client” thinks is an important fact may not be. While that thing they withheld is the linchpin to the case

So true! We have to protect the clients position and by doing that, is mitigating the worst position by being honest and candid straight away. A lawyer is there to manage risk and most instances.. damage control. The wins are not just damages and favourable court orders, it comes in form of mitigating risk

I’ve worked in the industry as a paralegal, we are very risk averse, we make a mistake our client sues us as well as us losing, we are personally liable too so depending we could lose our job and be banned from the profession forever. We will do what we can to win a clients case, but within the limit of the law and to protect our own reputation

This is so me. Whenever even when someone is talking to me I always analyse what they are saying . Sometime it really annoys me . It could be something simple and I will analyse what that person said. I always thing on what if this happens and my mum thinks I am being a pessimist.
