@changedotorg: A real estate firm is seeking access across roughly 1.1 acres of Yosemite National Park to build a short road connecting its 83-acre property to Big Oak Flat Road within the park. The road would bypass a circuitous route to Yosemite Valley that reportedly takes about 90 minutes. Kingsbarn Realty Capital is considering a lodge-and-cabin development on the property, though plans are not final. The Interior Department says no decision has been made and any proposal would be subject to legal requirements, environmental review, and public notice. Dalton Hunter (@travelwithdalt), an outdoor and travel content creator focused on national parks, launched a petition urging federal officials to reject the proposal. Hunter argues that allowing a private development to obtain access through Yosemite could create a precedent for similar requests involving other national parks. “If a developer can obtain protected parkland because its property lacks a convenient entrance, every parcel bordering a national park becomes a candidate for the same request,” Hunter’s petition reads. The petition is at our link in bio. #yosemite #nationalparks
