Dude I saw a user say how they lost movation and it made me so depressed because it reminded me of my own depression and how I was very attached to it because it was my escape from feeling not enough and other various things, if I was discouraged from making it,it would’ve been another “mistake” another thing I was not “good enough” and I just imagine how many people actually felt and feel that.

When I was young I heard guitar virtuosos and amazing songs and thought, “I’ll never be that good.” So I figured out what I was good at and developed that instead. Every artist encounters things they can’t compete with. I’m not sure how AI changes that. Why is the lesson “remove the thing that discourages you” rather than “figure out what you bring to the table”?

Genuinely how I felt about pursuing art as a professional job. I became adult when AI first peaked so I just gave up on it and started a degree that im mildly interested in as a "backup". However this year I accepted that when Im not creating art I am MISERABLE, so its either art or death. Im not giving up on the flame my soul eminates. If its too much to ask for them I'll let that fire burn everything down with it

This. As an artist (with a degree in fine art ) who's seen their artwork fed into ai and then shown back to them, I don't want to make art that much anymore. why make a drawing when someone's going to put it into an AI because what I've made isn't good enough? Why should I see my own art bastardized and sent back to me? It does mean I've gotten better at gardening, but I miss the joy of that drawing brought me.

ooof, as a millennial I feel like we did a lot of work as a society reflecting on the impact of Photoshop on our perception of what a human body looks like of things that are "imperfectly human" down to the wrinkles and pores. You made me truly realize that if Photoshop erased external reality, AI is really distorting the internal thought, skill building and expression process as 'imperfectly' human. What a mind**ck that must be for young minds and all minds! Thank you for this

I’m a graphic design student (I wanna become an illustrator) and your anecdote makes me so sad too :( drawing is genuinely one of my favorite things to do because both the process and the result give me so much satisfaction. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s something that I achieved by myself with time and dedication and that has my heart poured into it and THAT is something ai “art” could never dream of having, a soul. It’s disappointing to see people glorifying the slop machine.

I want to remind/educate people that the time in history where we didn’t have “art” (it still existed just not to the extent it has in modern history) was before we had time bc we were busy relocating communities pre-farming or busy just trying to survive on farming until we had the tools to make farming easier thus providing us with the time to use that energy to create. What is our time being used for if technology becomes the one “making art” when the intention behind technology was to provide us with the time for us to be able to create art
