Do you know the hidden history of the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel? 🌴🛎️🗝️✨ For nearly a century, this place has had a front-row seat to Hollywood history, but behind its famous façade are stories even longtime Angelenos may not know… When @The Hollywood Roosevelt opened in 1927, Hollywood itself was still becoming the entertainment capital of the world. Backed by names including Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Sid Grauman & MGM’s Louis B. Mayer, the hotel quickly became a playground for the actors, writers, directors & studio power players shaping the movie industry. Then, on May 16, 1929, approximately 270 guests gathered inside the hotel’s Blossom Room for the first-ever Academy Awards. Tickets cost just $5, Douglas Fairbanks presented the awards, and the actual ceremony lasted only about 15 minutes. Even better? The winners had already been announced months earlier. As Hollywood entered its Golden Age, the Roosevelt became a home away from home for some of its biggest stars- from Clark Gable & Carole Lombard to Errol Flynn, Montgomery Clift, Charlie Chaplin, Shirley Temple & Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn lived at the hotel early in her career and was famously photographed beside its pool. Today, a mirror associated with her stay remains one of the Roosevelt’s most legendary pieces of Hollywood lore. And the history didn’t stop with Old Hollywood. After a major restoration beginning in the 1980s, the Roosevelt entered a new era- and in 1988, David Hockney transformed the bottom of its Tropicana Pool with his unmistakable painted blue lines, leaving behind a lasting piece of his artistic legacy in Los Angeles. Nearly 100 years after it opened, the Hollywood Roosevelt isn’t simply a monument to Old Hollywood…It’s one of the rare places where it’s still very much alive. 🎥✨ Have you ever been inside this Hollywood landmark? 📍Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel 🗣️ Daniel Marino 🔍 Want to uncover more hidden LA history?
