For anyone actually interested, Marx was well aware of the basic calculus that you know from school. His issue with calculus (as it existed in his time) was the general understanding of the infinitesimal, regarded as a “ghost”, where an object dy/dx ultimately was treated as 0/0 in the end without any justification. For Marx, infinitesimal calculus involved in 3 stages: mystical (Newton and Leibniz) where that transition from dy/dx to 0/0 was taken literally; rational (d’Alembert) where the limit was introduced, but still doesn’t answer the question as the limit still vanishes to 0 without justification; and pure algebra (Lagrange) avoiding the problem of infinitesimal entirely by redefining the derivative in terms of the power series. While Marx praised Lagrange for rejecting the infinitesimal as an actual entity, he still never actually answers why exactly there was a qualitative transformation from strict algebra (delta x/delta y) to a distinct symbol dy/dx. Anyway there is some context.
