@swedenallii: I love getting to discover how much history there is right in my own backyard 🥹🇸🇪 We did a little walking tour of Kvarnbyn with my Swedish class and got to learn more about how Mölndal became the city it is today! The waterfalls here have powered water mills since at least the 1300s and eventually helped turn Mölndal into an industrial town. We learned about the old factories where generations of people in Mölndal worked, including the textile factories, which were largely workplaces for women. One was Samuelsons stocking factory called “Strumpan” even produced Sweden’s first seamless nylon stockings! 🧦 The area was also home to major paper and other industries that employed many local workers. 🏭 Even the name Mölndal is connected to the falls! “Mölna” is an old word for water mill, and because there were so many mills here powered by the water, the area became known for its milling and eventually got the name Mölndal. 🌊 We also got to see the old center of Mölndal and visit Mölndals stadsmuseum, which I definitely recommend! It’s free to visit and right by the falls. I really love getting to learn the history of the place where I’m living and then actually being able to walk around and see where it happened. 🥹 If you’re in the Gothenburg area, Kvarnbyn, Mölndalsfallen and the museum are definitely worth a visit! 🇸🇪🌿 #mölndal #gothenburg #fördig #sweden #sverige
