I think he wants to preserve the appellate issue yes, but i think his trial strategy both nonjury vs bench trial and no cross, is more about the sentencing piece. If he gets more engaged after the guilt phase that's the strategy. Full and fair disclosure I am an attorney and was friends with the victim and it pisses me off he is making everyone who loved Steven to go through the hell of this trial and reliving the loss they suffered. I think he enjoys it.

I think the stand-by attorney told him to say that because otherwise these issues can be deemed forfeited on appeal if he didn’t object during trial. The stand-by attorney is just trying to make sure appealable issues are preserved, even if unlikely to succeed on appeal.

Medical schools, residency and ACGME need to do a way better job of screening for psychopathy and having a route to weed these people out at each step of the medical training pipeline. Very likely his peers back in training knew he was dangerous.

Hi! Med student here. I know the mind of many doctors/ med students. He knows there is so much evidence. He wants the death penalty. He is trying to show he doesn't care about the process to get the death penalty. If he didn't want the death penalty he would have gotten a lawyer or have been actively participating in cross. If he shows he cares, the judge will put him in jail for life.
