Researchers have found links between insulin resistance, impaired glucose metabolism in the brain, and Alzheimer's disease, which is why you'll sometimes hear the term “type 3 diabetes” used in research discussions. That doesn't mean Alzheimer's is literally diabetes or that sugar simply turns into amyloid plaques. The disease is far more complex than that. But the connection is another reminder that metabolic health and brain health aren't separate conversations. What you do for your body today matters for the brain you're trying to protect for decades.
