I tried explaining 230+217 to my 1st grader and just stack them and go down each number like normal fuckin math and she told me I was doing it wrong. I try not to be like my dad was with me for math homework but I get why he had his crash outs now 😂

The way they make them do it is actually insane! I even got mine in a math tutor and sat in on a few lessons so I could also get to help at home and oh my! I was great at math! Always have been but this math?? It’s different and I’m not doing it! Luckily and sadly mine are HS age so I am of no help and they get help from the amazing teachers and have 4 classes vs 6 so they can have note in class time with that teacher so most homework can be done! 4th-6th are so important to get the steps down because if you don’t over 7th hits they get so behind it’s hard! [Innocent] I volunteer at the elementary and MS but I feel so bad how stressed some of the kids get because as parents we really don’t know how to help! When did even though the answer was correct because it wasn’t done the way they were taught it was “wrong” and marked incomplete! I wasn’t happy 😒

This is why the education system is so stupid. They try to fix how we do math by breaking it even further and making it more complicated for the kids to learn it. My kids bring it home and I literally have to look at them sideways like I could show you how I did it, but that won’t get you a passing grade. lol
