@thescenenm: UNM will earn $1.6 million total for Saturday’s game at Oklahoma, according to the 2019 contract between the two schools. Of that, $250,000 was already paid out in the 2020-2021 academic year, with the remainder due after the game is played. The contract, signed by both athletic directors in 2019, locked in the matchup years in advance as part of a wave of scheduling agreements UNM made with Power Five programs, including Auburn (2024) and a home-and-home with Oregon State (2027-2028). Games like this one are standard in college football. Smaller programs take on a tough opponent and a real risk of a blowout in exchange for a guarantee that helps fund their athletic department. The agreement also guarantees UNM at least 1,500 tickets to sell to its own fans, plus travel accommodations for the team and band.
