@npr: Famed costume designer Bob Mackie died Monday. He was 87 years old.   Mackie was known as the “Sultan of Sequins” for the show-stopping looks he created for famous performers, and his dazzling designs became as memorable as the stars who wore them — think Cher's feathered mohawk headdress at the 1986 Oscars. He designed an estimated 17,000 costumes for Carol Burnett's variety show, including a famous dress made out of a pair of curtains from her 1976 "Gone with the Wind" parody.   Mackie won nine Emmy Awards and a Tony Award and continued dressing stars into the 21st century like Miley Cyrus and Pink.   Find “NPR News Now” wherever you listen to podcasts.   Host: Korva Coleman/NPR Reporter: Chloe Veltman/NPR Producer: Michael Zamora/NPR
