I’m sorry I decided to stop getting Botox after this. There’s something so uncomfortable about not looking young but not looking old, just a mysterious third option

for me the issue isn't so much nostalgia as it is the lack of original stories and the incessant forced revisit of intellectual property

I saw a film historian say they did practical magic ‘trad wives’. 😑 Made me not want to see it.

I really don’t understand the negative reviews - practical magic 2 serves a purpose, to revisit a deeply loved and nostalgic film from the 90s and provide some entertainment. Expecting a cinematic masterpiece when that wasn’t the goal of the first one feels like losing the plot. It was so much fun. I went with my two sisters and we sobbed for 75% of it, loved every minute, and will honestly include it with any rewatch I do of the first one.

Kinda sucks that they disregarded her second husband in that way. Like yes i get the curse wasn’t really broken and that plot is fine but i would have loved to see a scene with her second husband madly in love with her in the present and then have him killed off, as it would have raised the emotional impact. It was bad enough that Sandra couldn’t fully express emotions because of botox, but it felt like the second husband didn’t matter and the movie was eager to pair her up with an english hunk. I did enjoy the movie but i dont think it was good and it didn’t give me the emotional impact of the first movie

Yes. It can survive based on nostalgia. It gave me the same feels as the first one. Maybe even more emotional bc I’m more connected to these characters. I love Sandra but my AMC Queen Nicole carried. The point of this movie is sisterhood. Message received.

I haven’t seen the new movie yet, but I really enjoyed the entire book series and the original movie. I think a lot of the criticism that I’m seeing especially related to the plot is because this movie seems to follow the book that is based on much more closely than the original movie followed the book that it was based on.

Im so over the narrative that a woman choosing not to marry or have children is a necessary unresolved character arc. There’s a recurring storytelling expectation that women who deviate from traditional milestones must eventually be made to account for them: Are they lonely? Do they regret it? Do they feel incomplete? What did they sacrifice? Would they choose differently? And at 50/60-something, she doesn’t necessarily need to have a dramatic revelation about her choices. I actually would have hated if that had been a narrative in the movie. No one asked the aunts why they didn’t have kids themselves.

I feel seen. Like I didn’t hate it. On its own, I was entertained. But I feel like comparing to the original is unfair.

Was it perfect? No, but I enjoyed it! I also wondered if they had deleted some scenes exploring Antonia’s queerness because there were remnants. Sally saying “now you can love however you want” and looking at her or her sharing a look with a woman at the wedding.
