this is why safe abortions are important she would have never had a child as a responsible and now another child is in the system for potentially their whole life. pro life will say “that aborted baby could have cured cancer” but they don’t care about the babies in the system who will never have the resources to ever try to cure cancer

DFS doesn't offer services. and you can't just call them up and surrender your kid, they will charge you with abandonment.

Family services can be so frustrating. The support system often tells single mothers they “make too much money” to qualify for assistance, even when they’re barely keeping their household afloat. What makes it even more frustrating is that eligibility is often based heavily on gross income what someone earns before taxes and before the bills required to actually maintain a household are paid. That number doesn’t tell the whole story. It doesn’t reflect what’s left after rent or a mortgage, utilities, childcare, groceries, insurance, or a car payment and transportation expenses needed just to get to work and get your children where they need to go. Someone can look like they make “too much” on paper while having very little disposable income left every month. Then, if a mother loses her job, has to quit because she can no longer afford childcare, or suddenly finds herself needing assistance, she may face waiting lists or additional hurdles before receiving help. There is a serious disconnect between what looks like enough money on paper and what it actually costs to raise a family today. Families shouldn’t have to reach financial crisis before the system recognizes that they need support. Assistance should help families stay stable, not require them to fall apart financially first.
